In 2001, <\/span>Lia Gangitano<\/b> founded PARTICIPANT INC, a not-for-profit art space presenting\u00a0<\/span>exhibitions by Virgil Marti, Charles Atlas, Kathe Burkhart, Michel Auder, Robert Boyd, Julie\u00a0<\/span>Tolentino, Breyer P-Orridge, Ren\u00e9e Green, Hunter Reynolds, Vaginal Davis, Kembra Pfahler,\u00a0<\/span>Jeffrey Gibson, Justin Vivian Bond, Greer Lankton, Ellen Cantor, Baseera Khan, Narcissister,\u00a0<\/span>and Tuesday Smillie, among others. As curator of Thread Waxing Space, NY, her exhibitions,\u00a0<\/span>screenings, and performances included Spectacular Optical (1998), Luther Price: Imitation of\u00a0<\/span>Life (1999), B\u00f8rre S\u00e6thre: Module for Mood (2000) and Sigalit Landau (2001). She is editor of\u00a0<\/span>Blood and Guts in Hollywood: Two Screenplays by Laura Parnes<\/em>; Dead Flowers<\/em>; and M Lamar:\u00a0<\/em><\/span>Negrogothic<\/em>. As associate curator, she co-curated Dress Codes (1993) and Boston School\u00a0<\/span>(1995) for The ICA, Boston, and edited New Histories (with Steven Nelson, 1997) and Boston\u00a0<\/span>School (1995). She has contributed to publications including Carol Rama: Space Even More\u00a0<\/em><\/span>than Time<\/em>; Ren\u00e9e Green, Endless Dreams and Time-based Streams<\/em>; Lovett\/Codagnone<\/em>;\u00a0<\/span>Whitney Biennial 2006-Day for Night<\/em>; and 2012 Whitney Biennial on Charles Atlas<\/em>. As curatorial\u00a0<\/span>advisor, her exhibitions at MoMA PS1 included Lovett\/Codagnone, Interruption of a Course of\u00a0<\/span>Action and Lutz Bacher, My Secret Life (2009). She currently teaches at the Center for\u00a0<\/span>Curatorial Studies at Bard College, where she curated, with Ann Butler and Jeannine Tang, The\u00a0<\/span>Conditions of Being Art, Pat Hearn Gallery and American Fine Arts, Co.
