She has 30 years experience reviewing performance for outlets such as the\u00a0<em>Australian<\/em>, the ABC and\u00a0<em>The Monthly\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0generated an international reputation as a performance critic with her influential blog\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theatrenotes.blogspot.com.au\/\">Theatre Notes<\/a>, which revolutionised performance discourse in Australia. In 2009 she was the first online critic to win the prestigious Geraldine Pascall Critic of the Year Award. With Robert Reid, she is\u00a0is co-editor and founder of the performing arts site\u00a0<em>Witness Performance<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Alison has published eight collections of poetry and several novels, including the acclaimed fantasy quintet\u00a0<em>The Books of Pellinor<\/em>,<em>\u00a0Black Spring<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The River and the Book<\/em>. She won the Dame Mary Gilmore and Anne Elder Awards for poetry and the Wilderness Society\u2019s 2016 Environment Award for Children\u2019s Literature for\u00a0<em>The River and the Book<\/em>. As well, her poetry collections and novels have been shortlisted for the Victorian Premier\u2019s Literary Award, the NSW Premier\u2019s Literary Award, the WA Premier\u2019s Literary Award, and her most recent fantasy novel\u00a0<em>The Bone Queen<\/em>\u00a0was shortlisted for YA Book of the Year in the 2017 Aurealis Awards.
