Harris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Duriel E. Harris<\/strong> is a poet, performer, sound artist, and scholar. She is author of three critically acclaimed print volumes of poetry, including her most recent,\u00a0<em>No Dictionary of a Living Tongue<\/em>\u00a0(Nightboat, 2017),\u00a0<em>Drag<\/em>\u00a0(2003), and\u00a0<em>Amnesiac: Poems<\/em>\u00a0(2010). Multi-genre works include her one-woman theatrical performance\u00a0<em>Thingification,<\/em>\u00a0the video collaboration <em>Speleology<\/em>\u00a0(2011) with artist Scott Rankin, and the conceptual sound project <em>Blood Labyrinth<\/em>. Recent appearances include\u00a0performances at the\u00a0Lake Forest College\u00a0Allan L. Carr Theatre, Naropa (Boulder, CO), the Chicago Jazz Festival (with Douglas Ewart &amp; Inventions),\u00a0Poet\u2019s House (NYC), the Greenhouse Theater (Chicago), The Votive Poetics Workshop (New Zealand), the Art Institute of Chicago, and Festival Internacional de Poes\u00eda de La Habana (Cuba).<\/p>\n<p>Cofounder of the avant garde poetry\/performance trio The Black Took Collective, Harris has been a MacDowell and Millay Colony fellow and has received grants from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the Cave Canem Foundation, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Her work has appeared in numerous venues, including\u00a0<em>The New York Times Magazine<\/em>,<em> The Poetry Foundation<\/em>, <em>BAX<\/em>,\u00a0<em>PEN America<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The &amp;Now Awards, Of Poetry &amp; Protest, Ploughshares<\/em>, <em>Troubling the Line<\/em>, and <em>Letters to the Future<\/em>; and her compositions have been translated into Polish, German, and Spanish. Harris earned degrees in Literature from Yale University and NYU, and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago Program for Writers.<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 Offen Poet, Harris is an associate professor of English in the graduate creative writing program at Illinois State University and the Editor of\u00a0the award-winning lit mag <em>Obsidian: Literature &amp; Arts in the African<\/em>\u00a0<em>Diaspora<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Duriel E.
