Y si no hubiera m\u00e1s l\u00edmite que la imaginaci\u00f3n quisiera creer que el arte en este territorio, fundado en la masacre, el genocidio, la tortura y en una constante impunidad, moviliz\u00f3 a miles de ciudadanos y ciudadanas que salieron a las calles luego de la revuelta de Octubre de 2019 a exigir respeto, justicia social y dignidad para el pueblo chileno y para las leg\u00edtimas demandas de los pueblos originarios. Quisiera creer que perme\u00f3 las diversas expresiones\u00a0 que vimos expresadas en las calles de un pa\u00eds que simulaba ser el modelo perfecto de desarrollo econ\u00f3mico neoliberal en Latinoam\u00e9rica. Quisiera creer \u00a0que quienes fueron testigos de la obra \u00d1UKE<\/em> (2016) estuvieron alzando la wenufoye<\/em> en las calles.[1]<\/sup><\/a> Y que todos y todas las que espectaron TREWA <\/em>(2019) escribieron en alg\u00fan muro de la ciudad su nombre.[2]<\/sup><\/a> Y si no hubiera m\u00e1s l\u00edmite que la imaginaci\u00f3n quisiera creer que con nuestro trabajo aportamos a un proceso de reconocimiento de nuestra identidad champurria y morenizada y a que la sabidur\u00eda ancestral se expandiera por todas las \u00e1reas del conocimiento.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Y si no hubiese m\u00e1s l\u00edmite que la imaginaci\u00f3n, a pesar de vivir hoy en un Estado de Vigilancia y en la inmanencia de la muerte instalada por una pandemia mundial desear\u00eda que el arte fuese un imprescindible en cada hogar y en cada familia, sin importar su raza, color, etnia o clase social. Y si no hubiera m\u00e1s l\u00edmite que la imaginaci\u00f3n, desear\u00eda que el encierro de algunos siga siendo el escenario perfecto para que las aves sigan sinti\u00e9ndose libres en el wenu mapu (\u201cla tierra arriba\u201d)<\/em> y que los seres humanos volvamos a recuperar la humanidad y el sentido invisible de nuestra existencia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a>[1] Dirig\u00ed \u00d1uke en una ruka (casa tradicional de los mapuche) instalada en el centro de la ciudad. Situaba en la escena la compleja situaci\u00f3n de violencia que viven a diario las comunidades mapuche en el sur de Chile. Un wenuofye es una bandera realizada en los a\u00f1os `90, como s\u00edmbolo de resistencia de la lucha mapuche.<\/sup><\/strong>

<\/a>[2] Dirig\u00ed Trewa, una \u00a0que situaba la b\u00fasqueda de verdad y justicia ante el asesinato de Macarena Vald\u00e9s por defender el agua en el sur de Chile.<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And if there were no greater limit than the imagination, I\u2019d like to believe that art in this territory, which was founded on massacre, genocide, torture, and on constant impunity, in some sense mobilized the thousands of citizens who took to the streets after the 2019 October uprising. It mobilized them to demand respect, social justice, and dignity for the Chilean people and for the legitimate demands of its original peoples. I\u2019d like to believe that art permeated the diverse expressions that we saw\u00a0 in the streets of a country that pretended to be the perfect model of neoliberal economic development in Latin America. I\u2019d like to believe that all those audience members who were witness to \u00d1UKE<\/em> (2016) were raising the wenufoye<\/em> in the streets.[1]<\/sup><\/a> And that all those who saw TREWA <\/em>(2019) wrote their names on some wall of the city.[2]<\/sup><\/a> And if there were no greater limit than the imagination, I\u2019d like to believe that with our work we\u2019re contributing to a process of recognition of our mixed, brown identity and to the expansion of ancestral wisdom into all areas of knowledge.<\/p>\n

And if there were no greater limit than the imagination — despite living today under a surveillance state and confronting the death intrinsic to a global pandemic — I would want art to be a necessity in each household and in each family, no matter its race, color, ethnicity, or social class. And if there were no greater limit than the imagination, I would want the enclosure of some to continue being the perfect stage, so that birds could continue feeling free in the wenu mapu <\/em>(\u201cThe land above\u201d) and that we humans could once again recover both our humanity and the invisible feeling of our existence.<\/p>\n

[1]<\/a> I directed \u00d1UKE <\/em>inside a ruka <\/em>(traditional Mapuche house) that was installed in the center of the city. The performance staged the complex violence that Mapuche communities face on a daily basis in southern Chile. A wenufoye <\/em>is a flag made during the 1990s as a symbol of resistance in the Mapuche struggle.<\/sup><\/p>\n
