Y yo, que tiendo a pensar teatralmente, me pregunto:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00bfC\u00f3mo ser\u00eda Chile si fuera un teatro?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Si de m\u00ed dependiera, ser\u00eda un teatro de carne, donde vi\u00e9ramos a nuestros habitantes representados sobre el escenario. Ser\u00eda un teatro de imagen, donde fuera posible vernos en nuestra obscena diversidad. Un teatro de verbo, donde la poes\u00eda y el pensamiento se juntaran cochinamente con la chuchada. Un teatro que nos mirara a la cara. O de reojo, como nos vemos en el metro o en la calle. Un teatro que nos ofreciera un espejo. Un teatro mir\u00f3n que fuera \u2014a veces\u2014 como mirar por el ojo de la cerradura. Un teatro exhibicionista, que fuera como empelotarnos frente a una ventana abierta (pero jugando a que nadie nos ve). Un teatro espectacular, lleno del ruido de nuestras ciudades, de nuestras estridentes y tiernas canciones, de nuestro acogedor y destructivo fuego. Un teatro \u00edntimo, silencioso, pero nunca muerto, nunca quieto. (Qu\u00e9 lata m\u00e1s grande ser el teatro muerto de un pa\u00eds muerto.) Un teatro \u2014siempre, siempre, siempre\u2014 narrativo. Un teatro que amara las historias de la patria. Pero que le importe una raja la noci\u00f3n \u2014siempre ficticia, siempre rid\u00edcula, siempre humillada y humillante\u2014 de La Patria. Un teatro que no fuera literatura, pero que incluya a la literatura. Un teatro que cobijara, desde el inicio hasta el apag\u00f3n final, a nuestro irremediable, cont\u00ednuo, sucio, err\u00f3neo y luminoso presente.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Si estuviera en mis manos, Chile ser\u00eda un teatro de tradici\u00f3n, pero que fuera lo suficientemente atrevido para romper \u2014y dialogar, cari\u00f1osamente\u2014 con esa tradici\u00f3n. Ser\u00eda un teatro de caminos nuevos, pero nunca cancelados. Ser\u00eda un teatro que mirara fuera de las fronteras. Que las rompiera o las diluyera. Que hiciera teatro como se podr\u00eda hacer en Nueva York u Oruro o Tanzania, pero que nunca lograra salir \u2014realmente, como una maldici\u00f3n\u2014 del horroroso Chile.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Si pudiera construir a Chile como un teatro, ser\u00eda un teatro para el p\u00fablico. Un teatro con el p\u00fablico. Un teatro de comunidad, pero nunca complaciente con la comunidad. Un teatro valiente, aunque la \u00fanica valent\u00eda fuera no ser cobarde.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Si Chile fuera un teatro, me gustar\u00eda que fuera un teatro con todos los medios posibles. Pero en el que la pobreza y la precariedad fuera parte de la riqueza. Aunque se tuviera todo. (El exhibicionismo de los recursos como un pecado capital. En cualquiera de los mundos.)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Si Chile fuera teatro, luchar\u00eda porque fuera un teatro hecho con las ventanas abiertas, con la tele prendida, con las antenas paradas. Con el ruido de la calle entrando en su creaci\u00f3n, en su proyecci\u00f3n, pero siempre en silencio una vez iniciada la funci\u00f3n.\u00a0 (Si Chile fuera un teatro, \u00a1los celulares estar\u00edan prohibidos una vez iniciada la funci\u00f3n!)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Si Chile fuera un teatro, amar\u00eda que fuera un teatro accesible, pero a la vez sustentable para el que lo ejerce. Ser\u00eda como debe ser: un teatro urgente. Que nos hablara del pasado o del futuro, pero para hablar del ahora. Un teatro que nos quitara el aliento. Un teatro que nos devolviera el aliento. Un teatro que nos alentara.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Un teatro que fuera intocable, pero que a la vez fuera capaz de tocarnos profundamente. Un teatro que nos pudi\u00e9ramos llevar para la casa. Pero que siempre fuera un recuerdo \u2014el mejor recuerdo\u2014 enriquecido por la memoria.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Si Chile fuera un teatro, me gustar\u00eda que fuera como un pa\u00eds. Pero mucho m\u00e1s grande y necesario que cualquier pa\u00eds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They ask us how the theatre will form Chile. And I, who tend to think theatrically, ask myself: What would Chile be like if it were a theatre?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If it were up to me, it would be a theatre of the flesh, where we would see our population played upon the stage. It would be a theatre of image, where it would be possible to see ourselves in our obscene diversity. A theatre of the word, where poetry and thought join together like pigs wallowing in shit. A theatre that stares us in the face. Or looks at us out of the corner of the eye, the way we see ourselves in the metro or on the street. A theatre that offers us a mirror. A nosy theatre that would\u2014at times\u2014be like peeking through a keyhole. An exhibitionist theatre, that would be like stripping in front of an open window (while playing at no one being able to see us). A spectacular theatre, full of the noise of our cities, our strident and tender songs, our embracing and destructive fire. An intimate theatre, silent, but never dead, never still. (What a gigantic pain to be the dead theatre of a dead country!)\u00a0 A theatre\u2014always, always, always\u2014narrative. A theatre that loves the country\u2019s stories. But that doesn\u2019t give a damn for the notion\u2014always fictitious, always ridiculous, always humiliating and humiliated\u2014of The Nation. A theatre that wouldn\u2019t be literature, but that includes literature. A theatre that shelters, from its inception to the final blackout, our irredeemable, continuous, dirty, erroneous, and luminous present.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If it were in my hands, Chile would be a theatre of tradition, but it would be sufficiently daring to break\u2014and dialogue, lovingly\u2014with that tradition. It would be a theatre taking new roads, but never cancelled. It would be a theatre that looks beyond borders. That breaks them or dissolves them. That would make theatre like it could be made in New York or Oruro or Tanzania, but would never succeed in leaving\u2014really, like a curse\u2014the horror that is Chile.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If I could build a Chile like a theatre, it would be a theatre for the public. A theatre with the public. A theatre of community, but never complacent with the community. A valiant theatre, although the only bravery would be not being cowardly.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If Chile were a theatre, I would like it to be a theatre with all possible means. But in which poverty and precarity were part of its wealth. Even if it had everything. (The exhibitionism of resources as a capital sin. In whichever world.)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If Chile were a theatre, I would fight for it to be a theatre made with open windows, with the TV on, with the antennae up. With the noise of the street entering its creation, its projection, but always in silence once the show had begun. (If Chile were a theatre, cell phones would be prohibited once the show had begun!)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If Chile were a theatre, I would love for it\u00a0 to be an accessible theatre, but sustainable for those who practice it. It would be as it should be: an urgent theatre. Let it talk to us of the past or the future, but in order to talk about now. A theatre that would take our breath away. A theatre that would give us back our breath. A theatre of inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A theatre that would be untouchable, but capable of touching us deeply at the same time. A theatre we could take home. But would always be a memento\u2014the best memento\u2014enriched by memory.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If Chile were a theatre, I would like it to be like a country.
