 \n\nI want to explore Cubist theater with the dramatic voice.\nSpeaking history of the north and west.\nWorking with form and structure [and voice of course] on the stage.\nThe piece begins with remembrance of the Indian \/ European Wars.\nThe cavalry and missionaries.\nThe anguish of conversion.\nI want the prose poems to morph into plays.\nI want the triangular shape of teepees   \npossibly shadowed on a white wall for the set\u2014\nThe square of forts and wagons and sometimes the clouds above them.\nI want to compose a cohesive, hybrid form of story for the stage.<\/em>\n \n||||\n \n \nThe Battle of Yellow House Canyon\nMarch 18, 1877\n \nDestroy thou them O God \u2014 Psalm 5:10\n \nBecause the rocks looked like yellow houses the Spaniards\nsaid Casas Amarillas<\/em>. Because they drove stakes into the\nHigh Plains to find their way across the tableland they said\nLlano Estacado<\/em>. Because Medicine Lodge Treaty gave\nComanche and Apache hunting grounds Black Horse\nslaughtered an American buffalo hunter picking off buffalo\nuntil his ammunition ran out. Because the buffalo hunter\nwas found with his stomach cut open the American buffalo\nhunters took revenge. Because it was nearing the end of the\nBuffalo Hunters\u2019 War Black Horse raided the hide camp\nwith Apache and Comanche. Because it was a battle of the\nBuffalo Hunters\u2019 War the Spaniards were not there to\nname.\n \n \n||||\n \n \nWaiting\n \nWhen the last of the buffalo on the Southern Plains were\nkilled. The wind lifted dust from the land as if the whole\nearth were migrating. There was a crack of dry thunder in\nthe distance as if buckshot. Then the terrible\nsilence. \n \n \n||||\n \n \nThe Cubist\n \n  Thou has smitten the cheekbone.\n  Thou hast broken teeth \u2014 Psalm 3:7\n \nO Lord the feet are running. Lord large as a hay wagon. \nThe sheep in the field are balls of onions. Their round\nbodies abide. He must be in another house. The horses\nchase the road. Between the trees the clouds ousted in the\nsky. Lord skewed and triumphant. The stalks are cut. The\nstubble hard to cross. On the blue house a white door.
