Renate Ferro

Renate Ferro is an artist who toggles between the creative skins of old and new technologies. Her artistic work has been featured at the Freud Museum (London), the Hemispheric Institute and FOMMA (Mexico), the Janus Pannonius Muzeum (Hungary), Peking University (Beijing), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Johnson Art Museum (Ithaca, NY), University of Virginia, Hunter College Gallery (NYC), and the Dorksy Gallery (NYC), among others. She is the managing curator of the online international listserv -empyre- soft-skinned space that brings together artists, theorists, and technologists. She retired from her professorial position at Cornell University in the Department of Art in 2022.

As residents of Upstate New York we are marked by the fraught specters of the border and enemy within. Trump’s antagonistic struggle with neighboring Canada, 170 miles north, summons the complexity of the disturbing phantoms haunting the land on which we live. From New York to Canada, the fraught apparitions of the rent promises of history arise at every crossing.
